Books

Sue Strachan’s early years working in the book publishing industry in New York City cemented an existing love affair with books.

Her book, “The Café Brûlot,” was published by Louisiana State University (LSU) Press in September 2021.

She was the co-founder of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Southern Storytellers (2009-2013), which were panel discussions with writers such as Donna Tartt, Rick Bragg and Ellen Gilchrist.

Sue can write, research, organize, collaborate or ghostwrite books in a variety of genres.

As the go-to moderator for book panel discussions at New Orleans bookstores, Sue has lead discussions for “Country & Midwestern: Chicago in the History of Country Music and the Folk Revival,” by Mark Guarino; “The Absinthe Frappé” by Marielle Songy; “The Seamstress of New Orleans,” by Diane C. McPhail and “Kiss Me In the Coral Lounge,” by Helen Ellis, as well as at literary series, “Dear Eliza Jane” at the Eliza Jane Hotel in New Orleans, which featured Neal Bodenheimer, author of “Cure: New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘Em,” and illustrator and children’s book author Shannon Kelly Atwater, “Alligators Don’t Like Flowers” and “Goodnight Pothole.”

“Thanks in a big way to Sue, my book event in New Orleans was a success. Sue is a respected New Orleans journalist who is recognized by local audiences as someone to follow because she has good taste. The depth of her research was revealed in her interview, which was lively, informational and probing.
Sue made me feel comfortable, which resulted in an interview that kept the audience transfixed. Highly recommended as someone who goes above and beyond and knows how to make connections with the audience. “ —
Mark Guarino, author of Country & Midwestern: Chicago in the History of Country Music and the Folk Revival”
